TODAY IN NATURE: Before Sunrise, Ocean Grove

Heat Wave on the Way

This closeup of sunrise off Ocean Grove on June 30 hints at the kind of heat the region can expect through the Fourth of July. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts temperatures into the 80s along the coast, but inland temperatures can reach into the high 90s, with heat indices between 100 and 105. Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management advises drinking plenty of water, limiting time in the sun, and wearing sunscreen and sunglasses. You should also check on elderly relatives and neighbors to make sure they're not suffering heat exhaustion, and never leave kids or pets in the car unattended. Today will be sunny, with a daytime high of 86, according to the NWS.
