Yes, today, Oct. 10, really is the birthday of Elwood H. Stokes, considered a "founding father" of Ocean Grove. Born in 1815, Stokes was a Methodist minister from Philadelphia who was president of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association from the Grove's founding in 1869 until his death in 1897. His statue is on Ocean Pathway east of the Great Auditorium.
