Memorial Day Leads to Revised or Reduced Trash Pickups

Monday, May 29, is Memorial Day, and with holidays like Memorial Day falling on Monday, towns postpone trash and recycling collections to the day or two after, or until the next regularly scheduled day. This means some residents see their weekly collection reduced from two days to one while twice-weekly collection continues elsewhere, and everybody  has to keep an eye on their street's collection schedule.

In Neptune Township, the Monday, May 29 trash pickup for Zone A and recycling pickup for Zone A1 is moved to Wednesday, May 31.

Meanwhile, in Ocean Grove, which is Neptune Township's historic district, Monday trash pickup is cancelled. The next pickup will be on Thursday, June 1, which is the next regularly scheduled day. There are normally two trash collections per week in Ocean Grove.

In Avon, where trash pickups are Monday and Thursday, "When a holiday falls on a Monday, trash collection will be on the Friday preceding the holiday and on the Tuesday after," according to the "Garbage Collection and Recycle Programs" page on the borough's web site.

Belmar outsources trash collection to Republic Services. According to information on the Department of Public Works's web page, the only days on which trash is not collected are Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

In Bradley Beach, which has two zones in which trash is collected on Monday, the only days on which trash is not collected are Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, according to the municipal calendar on the borough's web site. If collections on a certain day are disrupted by weather emergencies, then pickup takes place on the following day, according to the site.

Manasquan also has no trash collections on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Trash that would have been collected on those days is picked up on the day after, according to the borough's web site.

Spring Lake moved Monday's trash pickup to Tuesday, May 30, and the regularly scheduled Tuesday pickup to Wednesday, June 1. The changes are posted on the calendar on the borough's web site,

Sea Girt also moved Monday pickups to Tuesday, May 30, according to the borough's web site.
