Advisories for Sea Girt, Spring Lake Beaches Dropped

Swimming advisories for beaches in Sea Girt and Spring Lake have been dropped. The Terrace and Beacon Boulevard beaches in Sea Girt, and the York Avenue and Brown Avenue South beaches in Spring Lake came under advisories yesterday after water samples tested for high levels of enterococci bacteria found in human and animal waste.

According to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) website, enterococci can enter the ocean through storm water runoff. The higher-than-normal levels were preceded by heavy rain from the offshore storm the National Weather Service called "Potential Tropical Cyclone 10."

The lifting of the advisories comes in time for the three-day Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of the summer beach season.
