A coastal flood warning is in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday as Hurricane Jose moves north about 150 miles offshore,.
The outer bands from the category 1 hurricane brushed the Jersey Shore around 6 a.m. with light rain and a north wind of 12 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Showers are more likely after 11 a.m., along with a north wind of between 20 and 30 miles per hour. Showers and winds of up to 29 miles per hour are predicted for tonight.
Jose has been producing treacherous surf and rip currents along the coast and will continue doing so for several more days, the NWS said.
