Don't Put the Dogs Out: Millions of hot dogs recalled

Marathon Enterprises Inc., of Bronx, New York, is recalling 7.1 million pounds of Sabrett hot dogs that may be contaminated with bone fragments, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said.

The dogs, also called "frankfurters," "franks," or "sausages" on the packaging, were produced between March 17 and July 4 and have "EST. 8854" inside the USDA inspection mark. The packages were shipped to retail and institutional locations nationwide, according to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

One minor mouth injury has been reported, the USDA said.

If you have a package included in the recall, throw it out or return it to the place of purchase. Do not eat the contents, the USDA says.

Consumers with questions about the recall may call John Terminello, Consumer Relations, at 1-800-SABRETT Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Consumers may also "ask Karen," the virtual FSIS representative, online at AskKaren.gov or by smartphone at m.askkaren.gov.

The USDA also has a Meat and Poultry Hotline, 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854), which is available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Additionally, the USDA has a Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System online at https://www.fsis.usda.gov/reportproblem.
