Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as a religious camp meeting ground where people set up tents with furnishings, according to the Historical Society of Ocean Grove. At one point, there were as many as 800 tents. Now there are 114. On Tuesday, July 11, the Historical Society will lead a tour of the tent colony from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
Tickets are $30 in advance, or $35 the day of the tour, and may be purchased at the society's museum at 50 Pitman Ave. Maps will be distributed the day of the tour.
For reservations or information, call 732-774-1869, or email info@oceangrovehistory.org.
