1093: Scots king Malcolm III dies in battle against the English at Alnwick.
1903: French painter Camille Pissarro dies.
1950: The president of Venezuela, General Carlos Delgado Chalbaud, is assassinated.
1985: In Colombia, 23,000 people die in  mudslides caused by the eruption of Nevado del Ruiz.
2015: In Paris, 130 people die in coordinated terror attacks.
