The predicted 12 inches or more of lake-effect snow might not have arrived over this past weekend, but there's a possibility of an even bigger storm this coming weekend. Though the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland isn't talking accumulation yet, the bureau is warning of a major winter storm starting Thursday night and lasting into Saturday, which is Christmas Eve.
"This storm could bring dangerously cold wind chills, strong gusty winds, and snow to the area," the bureau said on social media. An accompanying graphic warned, "There is very high confidence in very cold temperatures for Friday through Sunday, including single-digit or colder temperatures. Wind chills below zero are possible on Friday and Saturday night."
While the graphic showed "low confidence" in snowfall, it said accumulating snow is possible late Thursday night through Friday night and extending into Saturday and Saturday night across the snow belt areas of northwest Ohio and northeast Pennsylvania, including Erie.
With Tuesday and Wednesday expected to be dry but cloudy, with highs in the mid-30s, NWS Cleveland says to take advantage of the next couple of days to get prepared.
