The rain now falling across the coast will change to freezing rain and sleet later this morning, before mixing with snow this afternoon, the National Weather Service said in a special statement issued at 9:47 a.m.
"Travel conditions will likely deteriorate rapidly this afternoon," the NWS warned.
Winter Storm Toby is still on track to dump between 6 and 12 inches of snow on the area by tonight.
