1913: More than 360 people die in a flood in Dayton, Ohio.
1937: In Ponce, Puerto Rico, 19 people die when police acting on orders from the Governor Blanton Winship, attack a parade celebrating the abolition of slavery and protesting the imprisonment of a political activist. Winship will later be found at fault and removed from office.
1960: In Sharpeville, South Africa, 69 unarmed civilians die when police fire upon an anti-apartheid demonstration.
