Scholarship To Be Awarded to Spring Lake Women

If you live in Spring Lake and are a woman either enrolled in or accepted into college, you have until April 28 to apply for the Eleanor Twomey Exceptional Citzenship Scholarship.

The scholarship is in memory of Eleanor Twomey, a research engineer, businesswoman and longtime Spring Lake resident who was active in the borough. She died at age 92 on May 1, 2014.

Only female residents already in college or accepted into college are eligible to apply. Two winners will be selected. Each will receive $2,500.

Applicants must show strong involvement in their community and the intent to continue that involvement after college.

Finalists will be asked to submit a presentation in a medium of their choice and to attend an in-person interview.

Applications are available from the borough's web site, springlakeboro(dot)org. Look under the "Bulletin Board" column on the right and click on the link "Eleanor Twomey Exceptional Citizenship Scholarship Application."

For application guidelines, call borough hall, 732-449-0800, ext. 620, or email dzahorsky@springlakeboro(dot)org.
