Strong Storms in Afternoon, Evening Forecasts

March 1 might be the first day of meteorological spring, but it's also March 1, and true to the old saying, March is coming in like a lion. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening as a squall line pushes through the region ahead of a strong cold front, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly.

Damaging winds, frequent lightning, and hail are possible, and heavy rains can produce localized flooding, the NWS said.

Wind gusts could exceed 60 miles per hour.

Expect scattered showers throughout the region this morning and early afternoon, the NWS said.
