The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region until 2 p.m.

Up to three inches of snow is expected after a rainy start, the NWS said. The changeover to snow will be quick, with snowfall heavy at times, especially inland and in higher elevations.

Snow will taper off from west to east in the early afternoon. Some areas might see scattered snow showers or snow squalls through the afternoon and into the evening, the NWS said.

Winds will be northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hours, with gusts of up to 22  miles per hour.

Untreated surfaces are expected to freeze overnight as temperatures dip to a low of 19F.
