Primary Attracted Under 12 Percent of County Voters

Just under 12 percent of Monmouth County's registered voters went to the polls in the statewide primary election held Tuesday, June 6, according to the county clerk's office. The election determined party candidates for gubernatorial, county, and local races.

Of 441,614 registered voters, only 52,173 -- 11.81 percent -- cast ballots, the office revealed in statistics posted on the county's website.

Turnout in the county's 458 districts averaged in the mid-teens, with turnout as low as 4.59 percent in Manalapan's District 13, and 5.48 percent in Howell's District 29.

Locally, some of the highest turnouts were 20.43 percent in Neptune's second district, and 20.20 percent in Sea Girt's first district.
